Decide
on a theme for your float (the theme for the carnival is owls
- the towns emblem if this gives you any ideas)
Music
– is very important – you need a portable sound
system and a car battery to run it – can hire these –
adds a lot to your float –well worth it! Decide if you
will be having music and how you will provide this.
Decide/find
who will take part in the float
Decide/find
who can you get to help you decorate your float.
Decide
what equipment/items/costumes will you need for your float.
(Don’t forget you can always ask on www.oldhamfreecycle.org.uk
to see if anyone has any of the items you need).
You
could decorate your float the night before if its your own truck
etc. But if its one of the customised vehicles from DP Firth,
you will only have the morning of the parade to decorate it
(from 8am). You could decorate it at the park. Either way the
float should be at the assembly point (see route map here)
REMEMBER FLOATS ARE
BIG – SO think BIG and SIMPLE
Costumes
– think BIG and COLOURFULL
Use
the decorating of the float as a team task between your group
members. The kids in particular will love. And try to photograph
the evolving float as you progress.
As last year, there will be
a trophy for the winner of the best float, so go for it! You
can win any of these catagories:
